MJMMG honored for improving SF’s Yerba Buena neighborhood

MJMMG (MJM Management Group), was recently recognized with the Yerba Buena Alliance 2013 Organizational Champion Award for their role in the transformation of Yerba Buena into a thriving neighborhood.

As specialists in turning public space into community value, MJMMG has helped to change Yerba Buena into a vibrant district of world-class open spaces, museums, shopping, dining, convention space, hotels, and educational institutions.

“MJMMG has played an active role in Yerba Buena’s evolution into what has become the City’s most dynamic neighborhood. They are true partners in the community who understand that every public space and area has its own character, style and culture that must be accounted for in its planning, activation, operation and maintenance,” said Sean Jeffries, president of the Yerba Buena Alliance and principal at Millennium Partners. The nonprofit YBA strengthens and sustains the Yerba Buena neighborhood by supporting its transformation, growth and development.

A history of turning public space into community value.

For more than 20 years, MJMMG has provided consulting, strategy, asset management and site operations services to enhance public spaces. In 1993, MJMMG began property management of Yerba Buena Gardens on behalf of the City of San Francisco Administrators Office that has helped transform a once vacant site into a thriving civic space attracting 4.5 million annual visitors. MJMMG staff also serves on several boards of community, civic and nonprofit organizations, and it volunteers on neighborhood improvement projects.

MJMMG also worked with YBA, the City and the community to form the Yerba Buena Community Benefit District (YBCBD), which provides cleaning, safety, marketing and other services to improve quality of life in the neighborhood. MJMMG designed, implemented and now manages the YBCBD’s Community Guides and Clean Team programs.

Integrated public space services that deliver measurable results.

“MJMMG’s counsel and advocacy has ensured that neighborhood growth has been and will be matched with community benefits,” said Linda Lucero, executive/artistic director of the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival. The result of their body of work is an energized, comfortable, clean, safe and welcoming Yerba Buena.”

John Ratto, operations manager for Recology and YBA board member, added that MJMMG finds creative solutions to urban challenges. “MJMMG’s work in Yerba Buena is a model for improving areas,” said Ratto. “They are adept at working with city, county and state governments, government agencies, and nonprofit service providers.”

MJMMG partners with public agencies, special assessment districts, real estate developers and property owners to achieve their public space goals. It manages Union Square Park in San Francisco for the City’s Recreation and Park Department, including the Union Square Live performance series that brings thousands downtown to support local business and improve the urban experience.

The historic Pearl Brewery in San Antonio is thriving with event programming designed by MJMMG that generates revenue for its businesses and has increased property values. MJMMG provided plans and strategies for park management, event programming and revenue generation at Grand Park in Los Angeles to help revive the downtown and create a thriving city center.
