Mary J. McCue brings to her role more than 20 years of management experience for urban public spaces and facilities. The recipient of some of her community’s most prestigious awards, she leads her corporate team and served as General Manager of Yerba Buena Gardens from 1993 through 2018.

In her role as Founder + CEO of MJMMG, she leads a multi-disciplinary team in managing San Francisco’s Union Square Park, Mission Creek Park in the emerging Mission Bay area, the exterior setting for the Four Seasons Hotel and Yerba Buena Lane, as well as servicing three of San Francisco’s business improvement/community benefit districts.

Her focus on rigorous program management is complemented by a strong creative background and entrepreneurial spirit. She brings two decades of experience in event production and management as well as community organizing and arts administration to the task of not just managing but activating public spaces. She created Union Square Live, which brings more than 60 free performing arts events to San Francisco’s urban public each year.

The breadth of her experience has extended to a consulting practice at home and in other American cities, including:

  • Los Angeles Grand Avenue and Civic park with Architect, Frank Gehry, Landscape Architect, Mark Rios and Related Urban
  • The re-design of the San Francisco Civic Center Historic Project in association with SMWM Architects and Designers
  • The Union Square Improvement Project with Royston, Hanamoto, Alley & Abey
  • Philadelphia’s Independence Mall for the National Park Service with Laurie Olin & Partners
  • Pearl Brewery in San Antonio
  • St. James Park in San Jose
  • Oviedo Park District in Oviedo Florida—with Project for Public Spaces

In each of her leadership and management roles she works directly and collaboratively with city agencies, neighborhood associations and community groups, as well as local businesses and institutions with the goal of understanding and enabling their goals. As a result of her imagination and commitment, she has received recognition and prestigious awards including:

  • The Most Influential Women in Bay Area Business Award from the San Francisco Business Times | 2014
  • The Unsung Heroine Award from the Yerba Buena Alliance in recognition of her outstanding service to the Yerba Buena community
  • The Koshland Civic Unity Award

  • Castro CBD Community Partner Award
  • The San Francisco Green Ribbon Award for energy efficiency, recycling, and environmental practices
  • Proclamation from Mayor Willie Brown, Jr., and the City and County of San Francisco
  • Proclamation from Mayor Gavin Newsom and the City and County of San Francisco
  • Certificate of Honor from Supervisor Chris Daly and the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco for her valuable contribution to the South of Market community
